heres a printer friendly version of the LCY spotters guide :

London City airport is right in the heart of London's docklands and is famous for its steep approaches, variety is not great as only certain aircraft are certified to use the short runway with such a steep approach, this means you will mainly see BAe 146's, Fokker 50s, Dash 8s, Embrears, and bizjets upto around a Falcon 900 size...

Operators include BA, Cityjet, VLM, KLM, Euromanx, Luxair, Air One, Lufthansa, Swiss, SAS, Scotair etc..

Unfortunately because of its proximity to London the airport has operational restrictions meaning that flights dont start to arrive until around 07:30ish, and the airport also has a 24 closure between Saturday lunch time and Sunday lunch time.

Main Short Stay Car Park

Viewing wise, if your arriving by car the best bet is to park it in the main short stay car park, this costs quite a bit (£7 for 2 hours) but if there are a few of you to split the cost its worth it!

From this car park you overlook the runway across the water, photography can be had of aircraft departing otherwise wheels tend to be chopped off by the grass. The sun is also behind you all day! I spent 2 hours here without being bothered at all..

Terminal

Next to the terminal building there is a small area with benches that is actually a spotting area, although this is a nice spot and is right next to a shelter as well as the terminal, current construction work limits photography.

LCY is a great little airport and the best thing about it is the biz jets - you never know what your going to get and although the airport is relatively small, movements are quite constant, you dont have to wait long for your next movement...
