Just got back from 3 days in Madrid. We stayed in Barajas town so just walked from the hotel to the metro (couple of hundred yards) and then followed the route over the footbridge after the allotments to the left mound. Spent most of Monday there (sunny day) . Many Guardia vehicles passed by but ignored us.

Tuesday (drizzle) went to Cuatro Vientos Museum. Used taxis as was cheaper than hire car and a lot less hassle fighting the rush hour and as a stranger, the navigation would have been awful.

On return went straight to T2. The cafe is now a full service 'wait here to be seated' restaurant. The windows to the left are OK but only about a third of the movements pass you and it depends a lot on which runway is in use to catch anything else. Forget photography from here due to the dirt  inside and out.

Wednesday, went to T2 and checked in early with KLM (via AMS to LBA). We hung around the 'windows' for a while as the traffic was busy and arrivals were using the nearest runway. We then moved airside and went all the way to the left hand end of the terminal complex which gives views of the runway intersections and you can catch most movements except those that arrive on the far runway and go straight to the back of the new long haul terminal (and the Nostrum CRJs as the reg's are just too awkward)

Made a big impact on the local fleets - Iberia, Europa, Comet, Spanair and  Nostrum. So well worth the visit. The highlights for my friend John were the 2 DH Rapides in CV!

Hope this helps

Brian
